Certified Teaching Position - Music:  
Smith Valley School is looking for an upbeat, creative, energetic, positive team player who loves children and music!

We are presently accepting applications for a K-8 Music Teacher.

Closing Date:  Open until filled.  Applications will be screened June 22, 2018. We reserve the right to hire for the position upon receipt of a complete application from a suitable candidate for our team.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in K-8 Education;   AND,
  • State of Montana Educator license  Pending certification approval is acceptable.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Endorsement(s) in music
  • Successful classroom experience in an elementary music setting (Student teaching counts!)

Job Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Plan, develop & implement course of music for grades K-8
  • Teach elective courses for 6-8 students (ie-music tech, band, choir, other)
  • Plan, organize and direct 3-5 school programs throughout the year (Ie:  Veteran’s Day, Christmas Program, Spring Program, Talent show). 

Essential Skills include but are not limited to being able to:  Meet diverse students needs.

  • Support Special Education students by making appropriate accommodations defined in IEP and 504 plans, while also maintaining appropriate confidentiality.
  • Work cooperatively with colleagues, attend professional development activities, staff meetings, etc.
  • Provide quality instruction, effective lesson planning, and appropriate evaluation
  • Implement positive classroom management, through safety procedures, behavior expectations, and effective supervision. 
  • Maintain effective professional relationships with staff, administration, students, and parents.

Physical Demands:   

  • Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift, and carry items up to 40 pounds, or use reasonable accommodations to perform expectations of the position. 
  • Ability to maintain reasonable, regular and acceptable attendance levels.

Smith Valley is a K-8 school district.  We have approximately 233 students about 20 certified staff and 9 support staff.  Smith Valley is located five miles west of Kalispell, and is nestled in the beautiful Northwest corner of Montana.  We are just minutes away from Glacier Park, and numerous recreational lakes. 

Smith Valley is located in a rural community.  We enjoy the benefits of being a small rural school, with that of being very close to a bigger town.  Our school focuses on seeking solutions by focusing on the positive whenever possible. We have a great community!  The Kalispell area boasts numerous outdoor opportunities to fish, hunt, ski, climb, hike, bike, etc.
