For Immediate Release - Update

The Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, Columbia Falls Police Department, Kalispell Police Department and the FBI have continued to work diligently throughout the day on the Cyber threats that were made to area schools. Progress has been made in the ongoing investigation.

This afternoon area law enforcement heads met with representatives from all valley schools. The Police Chiefs from Kalispell, Whitefish and Columbia Falls and I briefed the schools on the investigation, and advised them that it our belief that the threat is potentially credible. Based on that information, area schools will continue to remain closed for another day.

This afternoon the Kalispell Police Department and the Sheriff’s Office began receiving calls from concerned citizens about “shootings” and major criminal events and operations that they believed were in progress in our area. All advised they had heard of the events on Social Media sites. None of these events occurred, or were accurate.

No information has been uncovered that would lead us to believe that there is any specific threat to public safety at this time. We would encourage people to receive news from their local law enforcement agencies through legitimate news outlets and not social media.

This joint investigation is ongoing, and further information will be released as it becomes available.
